Internship Title: Government Affairs and Public Policy Intern

Hours: 10-20 hours/week

The Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce’s (GBCC) mission is to serve as the premier resource for business development in the Greater Binghamton region. Our aim is to support the existing local business community and the attraction of new businesses to the region through member-driven programs and services, the development of strategic community partnerships and effective political advocacy.
Internship Description:
This internship reports to and supports the Government Affairs and Public Policy Specialist. The Specialist’s responsibility is to work to ensure a proactive and strong partnership with local and statewide political representatives, both elected and appointed, and community stakeholders regarding Chamber public policy priorities. They are responsible for programs relating to local, state and federal government issues as well as major community issues. They research and analyze public policy issues and legislation impacting Chamber members and develop position statements and responses on behalf of the Chamber.
This internship will work with the Specialist on special projects related to these responsibilities. The intern may also assist with other workforce development and talent retention programs run by the GBCC. Applicants should be interested in advocacy and policy reform relating to building a strong business environment in Broome County and New York State. Applicants should be interested in researching and analyzing data and developing policies that address challenges faced by employers in the membership.
